Ito City
Ito is 120km south of Tokyo, 3 hours by car, and 1 hour and 50 minutes by JR express train. The Izu Peninsula belongs to the Fuji volcanic chain and runs south off the central mountain range that divides Japan into two. It is positioned between longitudes E139°2' and 9', and latitudes N34°50' and N35°2'. On the eastern coastal area of Izu Peninsula is the Amagi Range which reaches 20.45km from north to south and 10.45km from east to west for a total area of 124.10km 2The city is on alluvial soil on both sides of the Matsukawa River, and right on the seashore is an expanse of exquisite sandy beach. The temperature difference between seasons is small and easy to adjust to with an average temperature of 7.7℃ in winter (December to February) and 25.4℃ in summer (July to September). The population of Ito City as of November, 1997, was 75,450 (males 35,467, females 39,983) with 31,079 households.
There are active onsen (hot springs) in the city and Ito Onsen is one of the three major onsen regions in Japan along with Beppu and Atami. We boast the second largest output with 35,000 liters per minute. (There are 788 points from which the hot springs flow.) This area is blessed with natural marine resources such as Jogasaki coast, while the natural beauty of the mountains can be enjoyed all-year round. There are craft and cultural facilities such as fine arts museums, gardens and local history museums as well as five golf courses.

Sister Cities
Beginning with an international citizen cooperation agreement (July 1981) between Italy's Rieti City Sun Festival Committee, which holds a tub race, and the Ito City Tourist Association, sister city agreement between Ito City and Rieti City was established in July 1985. A sister city agreement was also established with Gillingham, England, the birthplace of Miura Anjin (William Adams) in August, 1982. Domestically, there are exchanges between citizens such as the cooperative agreement between the 'Sea City' Ito and the 'Mountain City' Suwa City in Nagano Prefecture (May 1965).

Medway City
Medway is a residential city in England with forests, fields and orchards, located downstream of the Medway River about 55km southeast of London. The city covers an area of 45km 2and has a population of 95,000, and a major employer is the Gillingham Marine Transport Shipyard. However, the biggest industry is the packing materials plant. In addition, there is agriculture and flower cultivation.
Rieti City
Rieti is approximately 80km north east of Rome, Italy overlooking the Velino River. In the summer it is a resort area and in the winter people enjoy skiing. The area produces wheat, grapes, olives, oliveoil and wine. It is a city with an area of 208km 2and a population of 43,000.
